Virtual Hike to The Wave
Educate | Explore | Training Video | Travel Guide
The Wave is a bizarre but very spectacular set of colorful sandstone formations that, over the past 15 years, everyone wants to go visit. This geologic feature is located on the remote Paria Plateau near the Arizona/Utah border. Not only do visitors need to know how to hike to The Wave, they also have to obtain a permit that are very sought-after. Only about 48 people a day are allowed in.
When we were able to get our own permits, we were amazed how difficult the hike really was and that the hiking instructions given to us from the BLM were not sufficient.
We decided to create both a training and virtual hike video that would explain to would-be hikers how to get a permit, how to get to the trailhead, explain the route to The Wave, and finally a recommended walking route through all the sandstone features. Soon, the BLM was recommending hikers to watch our video for the best directions as they never before had visual instructions on how to hike to and visit The Wave.
