The C-130 is an aircraft with a very successful history.
Used in many countries throughout the world, the C-130 can be outfitted to do
many different types of
jobs. Like other Air Force cargo aircraft such as the C-5 Galaxy, the
C-130 was developed by Lockheed Martin.
The C-130J is the latest model of this popular aircraft
design that
has been in production for almost 50 years. Deliveries of the C-130
began in 1956. This recent J model was introduced in 1999.
The new J model sports four
Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 turboprop engines with six-bladed composite propellers.
The body style may be 50 years old, but those props are state of the art
from the late 1990's.
