White Rocks Toadstools
These twin toadstools are just some of the fascinating geologic features to be found in the White Rocks area of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Toadstools are created when a harder layer of rock (the hat) sits on top of a softer layer (the pedestal). The softer layer erodes faster so, over time, the harder cap rock is left to balance on what’s left.
