Tecopa Area
Best known for its world-famous, natural hot springs, the Tecopa area has much to offer including a mining history, a date farm, a riparian marshland and some unique and beautiful geology. Tecopa, an Indian word for bobcat or wildcat, is the name given to the great, ancient lake that once filled this valley - Lake Tecopa. The original town of Tecopa began in the 1870's as a mill to process the ore from the mines near Noonday and was located in the area south of the Noonday Town Site. The ruins of that mill are still visible today. In 1907, the town was moved to its current location so that it would be closer to the then-new Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad . |
